Cardiac and Chest Radiology Imaging Services
Coronary CT Calcium Score
CT calcium scoring is a quick scan used to quantify coronary atherosclerosis and indicate a level of risk. The test does not require any additional medications or preparation.
Cardiac CT Angiography (CTCA)
Cardiac CT scanning can provide detailed information about the structure of the heart, valves and coronary arteries - often used in the investigation of chest pain. Screening can be offered in specific clinical circumstances.
Cardiac MRI (CMR)
This advanced imaging gives useful information about the function of the heart. Given the complexity, this test takes 45 minutes to one hour but provides information on a range of different heart-related conditions.
Chest CT
In specific contexts, CT of the chest can be a very useful tool in explaining respiratory symptoms. High resolution CT (HRCT) of the chest / thorax, low dose CT screening and contrast-enhanced scanning are all available. Radiologist advice is available as required.
Chest X-ray (CXR)
The Chest X-ray is a routine and basic method of reviewing the heart and lungs on a single image. This can be performed quickly at any of the practice sites.
Selecting the Right Test
If further information is required as to which test is most appropriate, please contact the radiology team. No additional or unnecessary tests will be performed and those using ionising radiation will be justified under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations (IR(ME)R).
